Ending Support for Office for Mac 2008

Support for Office for Mac 2008 will end April 9th, 2013. View the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy for further details, such as the support dates for this product.

You can purchase an Office 365 subscription – this includes Office for Mac 2011, as well as all future upgrades to the product. You can also still download updates for Office for Mac 2008 until April 19, 2014, but we recommend you try Office 365 for the best experience.

Thanks!

I’m actually happy to see this, it’ll be best for everyone if Microsoft focuses their efforts on Office 2011. Besides, 2008 couldn’t hold a candle to 2011. ;)

To clarify, Microsoft is ending Mainstream Support only for Microsoft Office 2008. According to Microsoft’s published support policy, Extended Support for Microsoft Office 2008 begins on April 9, 2013, and it lasts a minimum of 5 years (i.e. until April 9, 2018). During the Extended Support phase Microsoft will provide security fixes.

Please update this blog post and the support database to clarify this issue. (And yes, Microsoft Office 2008 is a “Business” product. Otherwise Microsoft would not have Microsoft Office 2008 Business Edition, for example.)

hi don, how do i make outlook 2011 list all the public folders on an exchange server in a list like entourage can ?

  4. Eick Wagner says:

I both own Office for Mac 2008 and 2011.
For e-mails, I still rely on Entourage 2008 since it has the ability to add custom headers to e-mail messages.
Are there any plans to introduce this feature to Outlook for Mac 2011 as well?

Thanks for the comment! We’re passing your feedback along to the Outlook for Mac engineering team to assist in feature prioritization for future updates.

Is it still possible to download office 2008 for mac from online, with the appropriate product key? I am trying to get office 2008, which I own a product key for, across to a new laptop? If so can you please provide details. Cheers
